Festive Greetings from The Cub Mag.

From everyone at The Cub Mag we would like to thank all of our subscribers, advertisers and friends for supporting the mag in its first year.  Since April 2012, life in the publishing lane has been exciting and hectic, and jolly good fun.  So thank you one and all for making it worthwhile.  Don't worry, there really is no rest for the wicked; while you're all munching mince pies or taking your Cubs for a canter (don't forget the pictures please) the keyboard will be red hot and the printer will be a-whirring-away and we'll soon have the January issue landing on doorsteps across the world - USA, Belgium, Germany, France, Australia, Bermuda, Ireland, Malaysia and not forgetting every corner of the UK, from Shetland to Lewis to Dorset to Kent to Newcastle to Edinburgh.....

And to misquote a very famous seasonal poem.....

"Edward Bear exclaimed ere he rode out of sight (pop pop pop bang!), Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!"

Purrrrfect Christmas Gift - The Cub Mag!

Need to buy a pressie for the person who has 'everything'?  They've got all the thermal socks and neck warmers and winter gloves and visor cleaner they could want, so what do you get them?  A years subscription to THE CUB MAG of course!!!  At only £12 for a UK sub, £18 for Europe and £20 for the rest of the world, it's a great value gift that will last the year.  Four A5 full colour mags will be delivered to their door over the year, and each one is full of Cub restorations and stories, technical tips, show reports, features on suppliers and a selection of ads for the people who will supply every nut and bolt to enable that Cub rebuild to be finished - PLUS, each subscriber is entitled to a 10% discount from Greystone Enterprises.  So what are you waiting for?  Email gbc AT thecubmag.com and quote 'Xmas Pressie' somewhere in your mail, and a subs form will wing its way straight back to you.

Here is an example of the type of articles you can expect from THE CUB MAG -
Issue 3 October 2012

Editors Ramblings ~ ah well, sorry, that's a bit of blurb from Gorgeous Biker Chick, aka The Editor!

CUB CAMP! ~ Promoting the idea of a Cub only get together in 2013.  It will feature road and off road activities and an array of Cub stars and suppliers will be there too.

Makin’ Tracks ~ a regular slot that aims to encourage Cub riders to get out and about on their little Triumphs.

My First Bike ~ Keith Brady jotted down his memories of owing a Tiger Cub in the 1960s.  This article has received great feedback and has already resulted in submissions of more great tails, errrr, tales of Cub ownership in 'the good old days'.

See No Evil ~ a bit of a break from Cubs, this feature will usually be a non-Cub story.  This month, our man Stu went Terrier spotting at the big Banbury run.  He found one too - but no pics - anyone help with this???

Trials Time ~ a regular slot from Paul Beswick of Pre65 & Twin Shock Trials parts reporting of Tiger Cubs being hurled at rocks and thrown into cold rushing rivers of icy mountain water....

Price Watch ~ your regular guide to the prices that our favourite little bikes are fetching (or not).  Features both road and trials machine prices.

Budget Trials Cub ~ another top story which has had great response.  Dave Mayle talks you through his build of a trials Cub that cost him less than a thousand pounds.  I think we'll be seeing a range of home built trials beasts based on this feature.

Spotlight On: B&B Engineering ~ the story behind Brett Baxter from Cornwall, who makes all kinds of parts for Cubs and Terriers.

Technically Talking ~ you need to take the advice given by Pat Press seriously.  Change those main bearings!

Colourful Cubs ~ Mike Estall is known the world over as The Cub Guru, and is a keen contributor to The Cub Mag.  In part 1, Mike recalls his trip to Bermuda, where the passion for Tiger Cubs was colourful to say the least!

Cubbie Restoration ~ Gorgeous Biker Chick makes the nation wince as she confesses to yet more maltreatment of her 1962 Cubbie during the rebuild.

Show Time ~ The Cub Mag went to the new Lanark motorbike show.  It was fun.  No, really, it was!

At Your Service ~ a selection of advertisers who can supply Cub spares or services to suit your Cub.  Some offer discounts to subscribers, and some you won't find advertising elsewhere.

Comments from abroad.

Barry in Australia got in touch to order issues 2 and 3.  The postal service being what it is, issue 3 arrived first and he couldn't resist opening it!

"Too late.
I could not resist and was very surprised.  I think the Mag is great.  I loved the article on the first bike by Keith Brady so much so that I am tempted to write about my first Tiger Cub and the ill treatment and mishaps I had with it.  Of course it will be up to you whether you want to use it.

I went to my bike club tonight and it seems that no one else has a Cub.  I will now read and fully digest all of the mag again.

Thank you for such a great mag and look forward to No2.

If you have a No 1 available I would love to buy that as well.
Regards Barry"

This was followed by another mail...

"...I managed to get a sub frame from Greystones. I bought some other bits as well so with my 10% discount I have nearly recovered my mag subscription.  Barry."

How to contact The Cub Mag...

If you have any general queries about The Cub Mag, or would like to get in touch about subscribing to the worlds best magazine dedicated to Triumph Tiger Cubs and Terriers, you can drop Gorgeous Biker Chick a line at gbc AT thecubmag.com.

If you have some great pictures of Cubs & Terriers to share with your like minded Cub & Terrier fans, there is now a dedicated email address for files greater than 5MB.  Please send them to bigcubmag AT hotmail.co.uk.  This account is not checked daily, so it would be a good idea to also drop GBC a quick note to the GBC address given above, just to alert her to the fact there is mail in the bigcubmag inbox.

Issue 3; Done & Dusted.

Well, that's the third issue of The Cub Mag out, work will soon be starting on Issue 4, which will be with you in January.  Due to Christmas post and snow (no negative thoughts here) the Cub Mag postal department estimates a mid-January delivery date.  Keep an eye on this page for contents info - and most importantly, for anyone who started from the April 2012 issue, this January mag will be the last one that you receive, unless you renew your subs!  Again, more info on renewals to follow.

Tuesday 30 October 2012

Issue 3 is on the way...

Just to let you all know, if you didn't collect your copy of Issue 3 from Stafford then it'll be posted out to you this week.  Thank you all for being so patient.

Wednesday 17 October 2012

See you at Stafford...

The Cub Mag team will be spending a little time at Stafford show, with the Greystone Enterprise crew, so if you want to come and say hello, or treat yourself to a warm winter tee shirt, or perhaps a lovely Cub Mag Mug - or you want to have a look at the mag then please drop by.  We have also managed to persuade Cub guru, Mike Estall to spend some time with us on SATURDAY to answer questions and help you with your Cub queries, and on SUNDAY, trials ace and top engineer, Alan Whitton, will be taking the hot seat and you can ask him anything you like about Cub trials riding or having your road and off road engines tweaked or fixed.  Both parties declared the need for chocolate biscuits so if you want answers you know what to bring!

Keep an eye on this page for times or pop by the stand first thing on Saturday to find out what's happening and when!  See y'all there.....

Monday 1 October 2012

How (and why) to change main bearings.

The Techy Tip in Issue 3 will be an article on the importance of changing main bearings, and an easy guide on how to do it.  It's a simple job (according to Pat Press) and should never be put off.....

If you want to subscribe, or purchase a copy of Issue 3, drop Gorgeous Biker Chick a line to gbc AT thecubmag.com (remember to change the AT to @ and remove the spaces).

Test machines wanted!

If anyone out there would like to have their Tiger Cub or Terrier tested by Gorgeous Biker Chick, for a future article in The Cub Mag, then please get in touch.  Specifically, at the moment, if you're based in Derbyshire (or 'near by') or the north of England then I might just have some time to kill around the end of October....(it'll probably have to be a week day or early evening before it gets too dark for photos).

It can be a road or off road based machine, and you can be assured that I won't be attempting to climb sheer rock faces or leap over cars or set a new Cub drag strip record.  It's just a chance for me to compare other peoples Cubs to my own fair example and tell the world why they should buy one.  Or two.  Or three or maybe four or five...ok...I'll go now.

Get in touch with gbc AT thecubmag.com for more info.

Friday 14 September 2012

Issue Three...

Ladies and gentlemen, issue 3 will be out very soon and it will contain such features as -

Building a Budget Trials Cub.

My First Bike was a Tiger Cub...(I'm sure there are a lot more of you with the same story to tell, so c'mon, please share)

Gorgeous Biker Chick's Cubbie Restoration.

Mike Estall's Bermudan Adventure.

Price Watch - keep an eye on those Cub sales - and 'not' sales.

See No Evil - certain events are a must in a biker's lifetime, and Stu reckons that 'Banbury' is on that list.

Makin' Tracks - ok so it's autumn, but really, is there any difference in the weather?  Still time to get out and ride before it actually turns to winter.

Show Time!  A view from the inside track, from those who volunteer to take bikes and set up a stall and spend the weekend being cold and hungry...and a view from those who enjoy it!

Well I think that's enough to keep you going for now.  If anyone wishes to collect their copy from the Stafford show, just get in touch - gbc AT thecubmag.com.

The Cub Mag on Facebook.

Once upon a time, the Editor of The Cub Mag, Gee-Bee Chick had a very lively and, even though she says it herself, quite a popular Facebook page.  On this, she used to promote her general motorcycling activities, plus any forthcoming Cub Mag news.  Well, something has happened to it, and although it seems you guys and girls can still access it, Gee-Bee Chick has been locked out.

So there is now a new page for you to 'follow' or 'like' - try this link Cub Mag Facebook.  It would be great to get this new page as active and full of pics as the old page was, so please click on the 'like' button and feel free to post your own Cub related pics and comments.

The more the merrier, so come on, join in, you know you want to....

Issue 2 July 2012

The production of Issue 2 was seriously halted last week, when, just as I was putting the finishing touches to the layout, adding a few more pics and juggling the text about to make it all fit, my computer threw a very big wobbly. It was a meltdown. It had run out of memory and refused to play. The biggest problem was that it wouldn't even let me continue to edit or alter the contents in any way. To cut a long story short, after managing to save a copy to a disc and then putting it in a friends laptop, which still didn't work, I ended up spending 4.5hrs at a friend's house in Aberdeen, which included a visit to her place of work, to try and come up with a solution. It was only as I was leaving at nearly 11pm that she had a brain wave - find a previous version of the file that had been auto-saved and work from there! Well, I got home at about half past midnight, after doing the weekly shop (24hr supermarkets, they'll never catch on) and set about hunting for the auto-save file location. Found it. Managed to open a version of Issue 2 that was about 24hrs before the finished version. The next morning, Thursday, I had to break the file into chunks that the computer could handle, and then finish editing and laying it out. Printing commenced way too late in the day, about 3pm I think (after I had helped Mrs BC catch and worm some lambs) and it was only at midnight that we had enough copies stapled, folded and ready for Mallory Park and our trip to the Festival of 1000 Bikes. And that's a whole other story....

So please give me a few days while I get some more printed and then Issue 2 of the Cub Mag will be posted out to all 116 subscribers.

Thursday 14 June 2012

Last chance...

For anyone subscribing to The Cub Mag from July, you'll miss out on Issue One which I'm sure will be the very highly prized issue in years to come, it being the launch issue and all that. So if you don't want to have to buy it via the back issues ordering service (that doesn't exist yet!) then just a gentle reminder to get your subs form in as soon as possible!

The Cub Mag Computer is broken!

GBC's main pooter is currently down and out and not working, apologies to anyone waiting for a response to Cub Mag enquiries or waiting for a magazine. Don't let that stop you emailing her tho if you would like to subscribe to the mag = gbc AT thecubmag.com, but don't expect an instant reply! She should be getting a bit to fix it today or tomorrow but you know how these things go. After dealing with Cub Mag things when she's back online I'm sure she'll get those pics and vids up on the blog!!! Mrs BC.

The Launch of The Cub Mag, April 2012.

The Cub Mag Team would like to say a big hello and an even bigger thank you to all who stopped by the stall at the Stafford Motorcycle Show last weekend (April 28/29th 2012). The plan was to have a bit of a launch party with free imitation bubbly and Celebrations, but even the best laid plans can go slightly skiffy. Read on. Arriving in Derbyshire to stay with friends on Friday night, the Cub Mag Team had a couple of hours to relax after a long drive from Aberdeen, before setting the alarms for a 5am start the following day. I wrongly imagined that I would need at least half an hour to drag myself out of bed, but, hey, you only launch a new Tiger Cub magazine once! I was up and ready in record time and we downed toasted crumpets and orange juice to set us up for the day, and arrived at the Stafford show ground a little before 7am. It was grey, miserable and freezing cold. Still, we rattled the framework of the Greystone Enterprises stall and forced Adrian and Derek from their beds, so that we could find out where we were going to set up. The bunting was hung, the tables placed strategically out of the wind, with tee shirts and mugs on display and the mags, forms and paraphernalia all laid out. It was still perishingly cold.

Now, I'm not going to tell you anything about tracking down Denis the Frenchman, a motorcycle trader who had a very rare little Triumph Terrier for sale at the October 2011 show, and concluding a deal that had been on hold for several months. I think this part of the story deserves a write up all of its own - watch this space!

So moving swiftly on, the public began to trickle in and a nice steady stream of Cub enthusiasts visited the stall to sign up for The Cub Mag. Numbers are looking good and after a bit of a count up, its fair to say that we've nearly hit three quarters of the target for year 1. The Celebrations went down well, but quite frankly, it was too chilly to be bothered about any bubbly - imitation or not; we'll save that for summer.

With chilled and achy bodies, eventually it was time to head off to our digs for the evening, but with the weather forecast of high wind and plenty of rain for Sunday, we packed most of the stuff into the truck and left only a couple of boxes and the tables tucked away under the Greystone's tarpaulin. Some stallholders had chosen to evacuate and were packing everything up and going home - and when Sunday dawned foul, wet, windy and very, very cold, I can't say I blamed them! The Team, which now had a little helper (thanks Pete) quickly packed the rest of the gear away as soon as we arrived at a more leisurely 8am, and headed for the sanctuary of the Classic Dirt Bike Hall, followed by a stroll around the main hall, lunch in the on-site cafe (which was far better than the £4.50 burger on the previous day) and back to the Dirt Bike Hall. Oh, that is where the fun began! A certain editor of the aforementioned CDB, Tim Britton, saw fit to haul Gorgeous Biker Chick up to the stage for a one to one trials tips session with multi-world champion Yrjo Vesterinen, multi-Scottish Six Days Trials winner Mick Andrews and multi-British champion Sammy Miller. Ah ha. All on film. All showing The Cub Mag logo of course. Just give me a day or three to put the video up and you can all learn a thing or two from the champs. All three of the guys were a laugh to be around, and the set up was very informal and chatty, providing you ignored the two video cameras pointing at the scene, and I picked up a heap of useful tips about off road riding. All I need now is a trials Cub and I'm all set - that's a hint for another "watch this space" as things are planned for something muddy and Cubby in the near future.

All in all, a fantastic weekend of meeting fellow Cubbers and enjoying the atmosphere of the show, despite the weather. An enormous 'thank you' must go to Derek and Adrian from Greystone Enterprises for their help and hospitality (the hot chocolate was much appreciated), and also to all those who signed up, thanks for supporting this new venture. A big old thanks to Mrs BC for packing me off down south while she coped admirably with the last of the lambing in the inclement weather, and thanks to Pete and the Man from Muckle Flugga for helping with all the show stuff. I think that’s it, pics and video to be posted this week, hopefully...

WANTED - NEW HEAD

Does anyone have an oval head they would be willing to sell? I was speaking to a guy yesterday who is very keen to display his 1961 Cub at the new Lanark show on the Scottish Cub Fest stall, but needs an oval head (in good condition) to finish the build to his requirements. If you can help, please email me gcb AT thecubmag.com but remember to change At to @ and remove the spaces.

Thanks,
Gorgeous Biker Chick.

Getting ready for Stafford...

It's been all go here at The Cub Mag Towers, with paper supplies arriving and boxes of mugs and tee shirts being piled up in the 'spare' room.  I don't think it's spare any more!  Issue One is now full to bursting and once I've done my bit I'll post up a little sample of the contents for you.

So you know what that means.  I now need articles, stories, technical tips, photos and anything else Cub and Terrier related for Issue Two.  Please send them to me gbc AT thecubmag.com but before you send huge photo files just let me know first in case it bounces back.

If you'd like to pre-order a tee shirt or mug for collection at Stafford you can use the same email addy - make sure you state what size tee you require.  The mugs are £9, tees are £10 and you'll be saving on all that postage and packing....

Bikes needed for Lanark Show...

ATTENTION SCOTTISH CUBBERS!!!!

The Scottish Cub Fest is still in need of many more Cubs and Terriers to go on the 12m x 2m club stand that we've been allocated at the NEW LANARK SHOW on 12th/13th May.

Displaying your bike on the stand is easy - you just need to email me gbc AT thecubmag.com and we'll put any Cub or Terrier in ANY condition up there, this is not just a concours display - but don't get me wrong, it would be good to have a nice shiny example or two on show as well, just to show people what is possible.

Please do get in touch. Not only is this the first Lanark bike show, but it will be the first Scottish Cub Fest, which hopefully, with enough support will go on to be a regular getting together of Cubbers in Scotland.

(Just to clarify, you don't need to be a Cub Mag subscriber to put a bike on the stand).

Friday 16 March 2012

Don't be a mug...

Every biker loves a mug - the kind you can put coffee in I mean. These new Cub Mag Mugs will be on sale at Stafford 28th/29th April for just nine British pounds (that's £9 written normally) or you can buy them mail order + P&P. So, if you want a right bargain of a mug for your coffee while you're in the shed scratching your head over how to fix your Cub, this is the mug for you. Oh, nearly forgot, this one pictured here is a prototype - the real ones will have the slogan "Don't be a mug....buy The Cub Mag!!!" on them.

Monday 12 March 2012

Issue One / tee shirt update.

The prep for Issue One is coming along nicely. In between farming, working in the day job, running the bike club, trying to build a shed, trying to get just one of my many bikes / projects going, and organising and planning to attend Stafford, Lanark, Shetland and A N Other Big Show (details later), I've finally got subscription forms out to just about everyone who was on the list and a few who weren't - thanks for getting in touch to give me a reminder nudge!

I have also just got my head around how PayPal calculate 'cross border fees', so if you're in any country other than Aberdeenshire, and you want to pay your subs by PP then it's all systems go, but I will need to add anything between 1.4 - 3.4% plus a few cents or francs or whatever your local currency is onto the total amount. It doesn't add up to much but it keeps all the costs covered. As much as I'd like to be able to fund the whole Cub Mag out of my own pocket, it ain't gonna happen!

TEE SHIRT NEWS -
Doing well with the tees, thanks for all the orders. There are only 2 XXLARGE, 3 LARGE and 1 MEDIUM left!!! Please place your orders for any other sizes from SMALL to XXXLARGE and I can get these on order in the next few days. Kids sizes are also availabe.

Tees can be posted out at the same time as the first mag or sooner if you'd prefer. Let me know when you email gbc AT thecubmag.com

Friday 9 March 2012

Subs form is OUT OUT OUT!!!

If you've already been in touch with gbc At thecubmag.com then chances are you will have a subscription form for The Cub Mag waiting in your inbox by now. If you don't have a form waiting for you and you would like a form, then let me know. Today, it seems, I'm working with a computer just as cranky as these lovely old Brit bikes we're launching the mag about - how apt!

Tuesday 6 March 2012

Tee shirts for sale!!!

Better look sharp guys, I've got the first batch of The Cub Mag tee shirts here - but there aren't that many so if you want one, better get your order in ASAP!

White cotton, pre-shrunk so no nasty shrinkages in the wash - sizes available are L and XL (other sizes can be ordered 'specially) and the price is just £10 plus P&P - available to be sent to all countries around the world.

Email gbc AT the cubmag.com to order.

Monday 5 March 2012

Coming tomorrow...

First glimpse of The Cub Mag tee shirts....

Friday 2 March 2012

I Name This Bear...

Hold on, hold on, not telling you just yet. First of all, thanks for all the 'name the bear' entries; some were funny, some were just random names, others were more bike related. One of the funniest was Johnny Dep(uty Editor), but the most appropriate and the name that seems to suit the little chap, is Edward "Teddy" Turner. Of course! Actually, that's doubly appropriate really cos not only can you call the little dude Teddy, but you can call him Ed (as in Editor) as well. Although I get the impression that the great Mr Turner didn't go in for such informalities, but this is the modern world Ed, and even though your little bikes are still roaming this earth, other things have changed somewhat!

So after all that blurb, the winner is Stuart. Well done lad. We'll get your prize off to you as soon as we know what it is!

A little promo material...

Sorry I stole the video as it was slowing the site down too much. Check out the link below to see it.

Everyone who is anyone is everywhere these days - I mean online, with a Facebook page, a Twitter thing, a YouTube channel and all the other hip places that I haven't heard of, so I thought I'd better crack on and at least make a video for YouTube. If any of you have any friends with a slight interest in Cubs and Terriers, I'd be most grateful if you could send them the link to the vid (or point them here) or maybe if you've got a website, any chance you could stick the video on it for me? No such thing as too much publicity....

Monday 20 February 2012

1st Issue 'Bears' All!

Thought you'd like to meet the new deputy editor on The Cub Mag Team! This little chap is keen to get his paws on the first copy of the magazine - and that one there in the pic, is indeed, the VERY FIRST ROUGH DRAFT. It's just a little snippet for you, a little taster. Hope you like what you see. It's been put before a selected bunch of honest reviewers for thoughts / opinions, and so far, so good.

And guess what, we're having a 'name that bear' competition, so, email gbc AT thecubmag.com (change the AT for @ and remove the spaces) or leave a comment on this page with your suggestions and the best / funniest / most appropriate one will be chosen for the official naming ceremony.

Wednesday 15 February 2012

The Cub Mag at Stafford - come and say hello!

Just thought you'd like to know, The Cub Mag has reached the BIG 'THREE-OH'! Or to put it more simply, we have 30 subscribers already, before the mag has even been launched! The Cub Mag Team is ever so ever so excited and GBC can't wait for the BIG LAUNCH at the Stafford show in April. Be sure to visit the Greystone Enterprises stand and you'll see The Cub Mag Team lurking in the corner - or standing over a hot kettle (little do they know, they'll get a cuppa tea and I'll get the choccy biccies!)

Thank you for your support guys and girls.

Friday 10 February 2012

Cubs to be exposed at Lanark! Brrrrrr......

Yep, it's been confirmed that the 'Scottish Cub Fest' has been given a huge space of 12m x 2m to fill at the new Scottish bike show at Lanark in May! That can only be good news as it means that us Cubbers will have the chance to put our bikes in front of the public, and we can chat all day long to like-minded enthusiasts about the highs and lows (not that are many, in fact, are there any?) of Cub ownership. Anyone wishing to put their Cub or Terrier on the stand should contact gbc AT thecubmag.com

Another Cub 'Tail'....

Just received another brilliant Cub story from a chap by the name of Jinx, over in Florida. His association with Tiger Cubs began in his teenage years, and now, just a few years on, Jinx shares his tale of searching for, and finding a 1965 T20SC (Street Competition) model in America. The only problem was, it was nearly a THREE THOUSAND mile round trip to pick it up - Ebay eh!

Was a Cub your first bike? Do you have a story to share - maybe you can beat the 3000 mile trip to purchase a T20? Maybe we'll have to put up a prize for the person who went to the greatest lengths to get their paws on a Tiger Cub or Terrier!

You are not a name, you are a number, a subscriber number...

Well! Isn't it going well! I now have a list of 19 confirmed subscribers - thank you all very much for supporting the idea of The Cub Mag - and I have a list of 11 possible suspects - on the suspect list I've got the names of people who have said casually, just in passing, that they might be tempted to sign up. So I'm asking you guys (do you know who you are???) if any of you wish to be one of the first 30 subscribers - you never know, in the future when the mag takes off, there could be some celebrity profile associated with being one of the first 30...and there might not, of course, but there might be. So, who is going to be NUMBER 20??? And 21 and 22 and 23 and so on..... To convert from a 'suspect' to a 'confirmed' all you need to do is go on to the Cub forum at www.cubsite.com and find the topic about the mag and then add your name, or drop me an email to gbc AT thecubmag.com. Go on, I need more than 19!

Free Free Free!!!

Yep, you heard right, FREE FREE FREE!!! But just what am I on about? I'm on about the very lucky Mr Ross, who recently won a YEARS FREE SUBSCRIPTION to The Cub Mag. What a lucky chap. All he had to do was score the most points in the Grampian Classic MCC annual pool competition and the prize was his. If you'd like a Cub Mag sub to give away as a special prize in your bike club (doesn't have to be to a Cub owner), you'd better get in touch - and make it quick 'cos there will only be a limited number available.

(The Cub Mag reserve the right to, er, back out of this offer if hundreds of people apply for free subs to give away within their bike club and it threatens to bankrupt the mag!)

Who needs an engine boffin?!

Over the weekend I had time to pop in and see a guy called Scott, who lives somewhere south of the Forth Road Bridge (aka Edinburgh) for a bit of a full on fantastic feature for The Cub Mag - Scott has 8 complete Cubs and many more projects on the go. Anyway, while I was there, we got chatting about engine work, and before I knew it, he was demonstrating how to split Cub flywheels (with a view to GBC attemting to fit the roller big end conversion to that mean green machine called Yorkie), using the genuine Triumph tool.

Good job I took pics and video, cos in the time it takes to find the engine and clear a space on the bench, I might just have lost my nerve!

More on that either on here or deadlines and space permitting, maybe a 'how not to...' feature in the mag.

Cub engine boffin required.

You might be aware than I have part shares in a Cub called Yorkie (well, it makes life easier to give your bikes names, otherwise how do you tell one Cub from another?). My input so far has been to choose the colour, and in due course, I'm sure I'll get a ride or several on it. Anyway, the main share holder wants to have a roller big end fitted and hasn't got the time or facilities to do it as a DIY project. So can anyone recommend someone who knows a bit about Cubs and can do this small job plus the rest of the engine refurb? Don't mind sending it away, might even be able to drop it off if its someone between Cubbie Towers (Aberdeenshire) and VMCC HQ (Burton on Trent). Would prefer to use someone as recommended by another Cubber if poss.

Contact gbc AT thecubmag.com please if you can help.

Tiger Cub on TV!!!

Just found out that the Richard Wilson series, Britains Best Drives, is back on TV all this week, well, what's left of this week, and the episode tomorrow (Fri 6th Jan) features Gorgeous Biker Chick and Cubbie. Just make sure you don't blink or sneeze when they're going through the line up of the bikes!

Freeview channel 12, "Yesterday", 3.30pm and again at 8.30pm.

Scottish Cub Fest

Some of you might have heard about the new Scottish bike show, to be held at Lanark on 12/13th May this year. I was considering the idea of having a bit of a Cub get together there - it would make an ideal venue to showcase our Cubs to a new audience, and maybe even meet a few 'like minded' types. The deal from the organisers is a FREE 16 square meter plot indoors, which would give us room for a selection of different models - not scantily clad stick insects, I was thinking more Sports / Mountain / Trials Cubs etc and not forgetting the Terrier, and perhaps some sort of project on the bench, so that people can see the mad things that we Cubbers do! Might even manage to hook up a slide show with Cub rides and activies shown on a screen - would probably be a charge for an electric hook up, but if the 'Fest' takes off, I can find out more.

I'm sure there are a goodly number of Cub owners in Scotland or the north of England who would relish a weekend away at a bike show, talking bikes, looking at other bikes and generally having a good old time. Being May, the weather might be nice and we could even attept to organise a BBQ for Cub Fest Partakees and Friends.

Any thoughts on this are most welcome, either leave a comment by clicking on the 'comment' link under this post, or email me gbc AT thecubmag.com. If you fancy taking your bike along or helping out by manning the stand for a couple of hours each day, then that would be much appreciated. Contact me in the same way.

A Mountain Cub Story.

Just finished typing up an article about Captain Bill's 1966 Mountain Cub. Six handwritten sides of A4 now converted to occupy some of the remaining blank pages in issue 1. Not much room left now but I could do with some words and pics about owners modifications; what have you done to make your Cub or Terrier more reliable, more usable, less leaky....

Send them to gbc AT thecubmag.com but hurry hurry hurry if you want to make it in time for issue 1!!!
