Free Free Free!!!

Yep, you heard right, FREE FREE FREE!!! But just what am I on about? I'm on about the very lucky Mr Ross, who recently won a YEARS FREE SUBSCRIPTION to The Cub Mag. What a lucky chap. All he had to do was score the most points in the Grampian Classic MCC annual pool competition and the prize was his. If you'd like a Cub Mag sub to give away as a special prize in your bike club (doesn't have to be to a Cub owner), you'd better get in touch - and make it quick 'cos there will only be a limited number available.

(The Cub Mag reserve the right to, er, back out of this offer if hundreds of people apply for free subs to give away within their bike club and it threatens to bankrupt the mag!)

Who needs an engine boffin?!

Over the weekend I had time to pop in and see a guy called Scott, who lives somewhere south of the Forth Road Bridge (aka Edinburgh) for a bit of a full on fantastic feature for The Cub Mag - Scott has 8 complete Cubs and many more projects on the go. Anyway, while I was there, we got chatting about engine work, and before I knew it, he was demonstrating how to split Cub flywheels (with a view to GBC attemting to fit the roller big end conversion to that mean green machine called Yorkie), using the genuine Triumph tool.

Good job I took pics and video, cos in the time it takes to find the engine and clear a space on the bench, I might just have lost my nerve!

More on that either on here or deadlines and space permitting, maybe a 'how not to...' feature in the mag.

Cub engine boffin required.

You might be aware than I have part shares in a Cub called Yorkie (well, it makes life easier to give your bikes names, otherwise how do you tell one Cub from another?). My input so far has been to choose the colour, and in due course, I'm sure I'll get a ride or several on it. Anyway, the main share holder wants to have a roller big end fitted and hasn't got the time or facilities to do it as a DIY project. So can anyone recommend someone who knows a bit about Cubs and can do this small job plus the rest of the engine refurb? Don't mind sending it away, might even be able to drop it off if its someone between Cubbie Towers (Aberdeenshire) and VMCC HQ (Burton on Trent). Would prefer to use someone as recommended by another Cubber if poss.

Contact gbc AT thecubmag.com please if you can help.

Tiger Cub on TV!!!

Just found out that the Richard Wilson series, Britains Best Drives, is back on TV all this week, well, what's left of this week, and the episode tomorrow (Fri 6th Jan) features Gorgeous Biker Chick and Cubbie. Just make sure you don't blink or sneeze when they're going through the line up of the bikes!

Freeview channel 12, "Yesterday", 3.30pm and again at 8.30pm.

Scottish Cub Fest

Some of you might have heard about the new Scottish bike show, to be held at Lanark on 12/13th May this year. I was considering the idea of having a bit of a Cub get together there - it would make an ideal venue to showcase our Cubs to a new audience, and maybe even meet a few 'like minded' types. The deal from the organisers is a FREE 16 square meter plot indoors, which would give us room for a selection of different models - not scantily clad stick insects, I was thinking more Sports / Mountain / Trials Cubs etc and not forgetting the Terrier, and perhaps some sort of project on the bench, so that people can see the mad things that we Cubbers do! Might even manage to hook up a slide show with Cub rides and activies shown on a screen - would probably be a charge for an electric hook up, but if the 'Fest' takes off, I can find out more.

I'm sure there are a goodly number of Cub owners in Scotland or the north of England who would relish a weekend away at a bike show, talking bikes, looking at other bikes and generally having a good old time. Being May, the weather might be nice and we could even attept to organise a BBQ for Cub Fest Partakees and Friends.

Any thoughts on this are most welcome, either leave a comment by clicking on the 'comment' link under this post, or email me gbc AT thecubmag.com. If you fancy taking your bike along or helping out by manning the stand for a couple of hours each day, then that would be much appreciated. Contact me in the same way.

A Mountain Cub Story.

Just finished typing up an article about Captain Bill's 1966 Mountain Cub. Six handwritten sides of A4 now converted to occupy some of the remaining blank pages in issue 1. Not much room left now but I could do with some words and pics about owners modifications; what have you done to make your Cub or Terrier more reliable, more usable, less leaky....

Send them to gbc AT thecubmag.com but hurry hurry hurry if you want to make it in time for issue 1!!!
